I love to travel, however, with the price of gas sky high and with two pre-teen kids at my side, asking for every knickknack in the store, my travels have become sporadic. In the last year it seems like my enthusiasm to travel has regained momentum, though. Therefore, I started to look for bargains and have found very appealing deals.
For instance, Wisconsin Dells offers great monthly deals. The deal for the month of March is a stay at the Atlantis Hotel ranging from $59 to $159 a night. I went for the $59 package which includes; passes to their two indoor water park locations, a double queen bed that comfortably sleeps four, free WIFI, HBO, and it even includes a small fridge and microwave. The fridge and microwave allows you to buy snacks ahead of time. I normally buy lunch meat, bread, peanut butter, and jelly, and also stock up on chips, cookies, fruit, water and juice. This cuts the cost of spending extra money in local restaurants or vending machines. In addition, I save some cash by not taking my kids into the hotel restaurants because I find that they are just not very enthused about the menu. I therefore opt to take them to either a fast food restaurant or any little local spot that offers burgers and fries. Yet, if you just can’t find the time to run out and look for a fast food restaurant, have the kids share a plate.
As you arrive in your hotel room, you can also cut costs and avoid some headaches by borrowing board games from friends. I find that bringing board games you have never played before is a fun and exciting way to spend time and it is a time and cost saver. If your kids are older or very young, rent or borrow some movies, this can be a cool late night activity.
Finally if you are traveling by car, as I did, there is a website called www.gasbuddy.com that will help you track the lowest gas prices in the area you are going to be attending. In addition, make sure your tire air pressure is normal, and your gas cap is closed tightly in order to save some cost on gas.
There is a small catch to this Wisconsin Dells deal, the prices are valid from Sunday through Thursday, but with the upcoming spring breaks this can be a great option.
