Frank Sharpe Jr. has made it his mission to teach the art of self-defense to women and for them to understand that they are not vulnerable, by any means, to harm. Sharpe has taken many courses to understand the differences in any style of defense whether it be hand-to-hand or firearm combat. Learning more about the different types of self-defense will help anyone, women in particular.

Sharpe has turned the art of self-defense into his life’s work and continues to help as many people as he can. Sharpe got the idea to help women in self-defense when his mother had moved away for a short-period and was training in St. Louis for a new job. Because she was living alone Sharpe’s mother decided to buy a revolver for her own protection. This helped Sharpe develop the idea helping people in their line of self defense.

Sharpe has garnered many different qualifications throughout the years but still considers himself a student. He continues to learn and expand his knowledge so that he may continue to teach the best way that he can and expand the knowledge of his students. Sharpe has spent 10 years as senior staff instructor with John and Vicki Farnam of Defense International Training and considers them to be the greatest living firearm instructors in the world.

Having these courses available to women presents different challenges to Sharpe and his students. Different women are afraid to open up to any type of male, even their instructors. Because of their past experiences with physical or even mental abuse it still haunts them even as they move forward with their lives. Other challenges that may be faced is what is legal or illegal within a women’s work environment. Sharpe can alter the training course to help women understand both sides of the self-defense art.

Sharpe focuses on three main points in his training to help women to understand how to avoid the situations that may arise: 1) The best way to win a fight is avoid a fight in the first place. 2) Situational awareness in any given situation. 3) If one can not avoid the altercation then Sharpe stresses that they disengage from the situation as person(s) with the lowest force-level possible. Sharpe states that quite often a self-defense technique is a simple matter of excusing yourself from the situation and moving on.

With men being physically stronger in the upper body there are different ways for women to hold their own ground, in any type of altercation. Women benefit more knowledge on how to properly deploy defensive tools, like firearms if they are ever confronted by an attacker.

Sharpe teaches that both men and women need to realize that even deploying a firearm the correct way takes even the basic knowledge of hand-to-hand combat.

When teaching a new student Sharpe focuses on different techniques to help women understand what they need to know. Sharpe centers on the reasons for women seeking out his help to help train his students. Generally, Sharpe likes to zero in on developing his student’s defensive mindset and awareness.

Sharpe has made it his life’s mission to help those who need his help. He continues to expand his knowledge to better himself and especially his students. Frank Sharpe Jr. is here to help those who need it the most. If you or anyone you know needs help or interested in learning more feel free to visit him at his website
