Ashamed Of My Generation

Statistics may not show it, but my generation is slowly becoming one huge pitfall. Not to be too extreme, but some people can back me up when I say that some of my peers are wasting their lives on nothing. It’s not all of us, but it’s a good handful of young adults preciously sitting around mindlessly acting like wild animals, horny dogs, or ignorant children. Apparently I didn’t get the memo that it’s okay to walk around like European prostitutes at the age of 16, or tell the entire world why you didn’t go into work because of a “ill advised night of intense drinking.” I know all of these excuses and unforgettable quotes because I read them on my daily news feed on my oh so loved Facebook.

How many times have you’ve heard these stories or statuses:

“Ughh, FML. My life is so stressful and hectic”
Stressful…? Try working a full time job, with no transportation, with 2 kids, no husband, and no family support…things can be worse so do us all a favor and shut up.

“Sitting in class with this hangover from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday just isn’t fun anymore and it’s Wednesday…I need the weekend to be here already.”
Surprised you are even enrolled in some type of educational program

“All you haters, hating on me…keep hating…”
Nobody cares about your life anyways.

“Love isn’t something you just say unless you mean it…ugh!”
Ah yes the loved trouble relationship girl/boy letting the whole world know that they are ready to commit to an adult mature relationship…. so sad, but good luck on the next 2 month commitment.

“Never partying ever again! Finally made it home, but barely alive :/”
Never partying again…?, trust me, man, you’ll be out again tomorrow night with a Cranberry Vodka in one hand and a half passed out chick in the other.

As this list goes on and on, the more annoyed we all get. The best part of all this is that we are all friends with these “Facebook Status Machines” and pitiful people complaining about small things that essentially could be avoided if they had their priorities straight.

Let’s face it, today’s society is not being educated by, or being led by great role models. For instance: “Snooki” should not be a girl that young women look up to, or attempt to look like on a Saturday night. MTV’s “Teen Mom” should not even be a show, but in this case, it should not be viewed by teenage, pregnant girls. Shows like “Caged” on MTV or UFC should not be a reason for boys to act tough or want to punch everything in sight. Treating women like the boys do on “The Jersey Shore,” should not make it okay for boys to call girls whores, b-words, or assume that every girl is “DTF.”

Another thing, Facebook should have an age limit on who can actually have an account and how many dumb statuses are allowed to be posted daily.

Ever wonder why older people stopped saying the phrase, “you are the future”? Maybe because they see the future being led by people that just don’t care anymore, and sadly, that is “our generation.”

What happen to trying to be the best or reaching for your goals and dreams. What happen to the corny hidden inspiration everyone once had? Where did self-respect go?

Self-respect is something they still teach in school, correct? If so, why are so many teenagers/adults so vulgar, so violent, and so disgusting? The biggest fear that any parent should have is that their child, once so innocent and sweet, becomes the “problem child” or the problem kid everyone knows about… besides them. As a son or daughter, your number one goal in life should be to make yourself proud of who you are, and once you get to that stage, make someone else proud…like your parents.

Remember, life does not owe you anything, you owe life everything. For those who are healthy, mobile, financially stable, and loved by someone or something, stop acting like life is out to get you. You make life what it is and by destroying simple aspects of it, you destroy yourself and your future.

Take it from someone who has an idea on life…grow up, be responsible, be mature, and act your age. In this world no one will feel sorry for you, especially if you let everyone into your 24/7 life on the worldwide web. To my fellow embarrassing peers, don’t be ashamed of who you are, be ashamed on how you act and what you do.
